Golf News, Source, Manchesteronline.co.uk- ERNIE Els wasted no time in proving he is back to full fitness after a five-month lay-off when he homed in on the Dunhill Championship at Leopard Creek in his native South Africa. The former Open champion, competing in only his second tournament since damaging his knee in a sailing accident, carded a closing round of 68 to finish on 14-under-par.
And after beating compatriot, Ulrich van den Berg, by three shots, he admitted: "After an injury like that, you're unsure of the future and how it will react." Van den Berg looked on course to deny him when he doubled his overnight lead to four shots after a brace of birdies in the first six holes.
But he opened the door to Els with a triple bogey on the 11th and a double on the short 16th. Van den Berg had to settle for a share of fourth place after a 76 as South African youngsters Louis Oosthuizen and defending champion Charl Schwartzel, a member of Chubby Chandler's stable, finished runners-up.
